Australia’s leading independent Indigenous law firm, Marrawah Law, was named 2021 Certified Supplier of the Year at the Supply Nation Supplier Diversity Awards.
Founder and Principal of Marrawah Law, Leah Cameron, was also successful at the Awards being named 2021 Indigenous Businesswoman of the Year.
These awards recognise the businesses and leaders who are driving and enhancing one of Australia’s largest growing sectors – the Indigenous business sector. In addition, the Indigenous Businesswoman of the Year recognises a female Indigenous business owner who has driven significant and sustainable growth in her business and has demonstrated ongoing engagement with Supply Nation, its members and other Indigenous businesses. In accepting the Supplier of the Year award, Marrawah Law Founder Leah Cameron paid tribute to all of the other finalists.
“There is no doubt that last year was a challenging year for businesses right across Australia,” Ms Cameron said. “So much has been said about the challenges but little about the triumphs so I want to acknowledge the finalists and all of the other nominated businesses for their hard work and resilience.
“I want to recognise the team at Marrawah for their dedication, flexibility and the way they have supported our clients, particularly those Indigenous businesses who had to respond to change and uncertainty due to Covid-19.
In accepting her award, Leah Cameron reflected on the progress of the Indigenous business sector and its successful female leaders.
“Personally, I was humbled to be a finalist alongside such successful businesswomen and so delighted to receive the award,” Ms Cameron said.
“I would also like to thank our partners and supporters and my mentors for helping me to expand our service offering and provide clients with an opportunity to engage a 100% Indigenous and female owned firm that prides itself on ‘walking in two worlds’ and delivering outcomes with cultural legitimacy and mutual benefit. We are also incredibly proud that over 80% of our staff are Indigenous women.
“These awards are such an important opportunity to reflect on how far the overall Indigenous business sector has come and how many success stories we have to celebrate. “
Thank you again to Supply Nation for the support you have provided to Marrawah Lawand other businesses over the past year and for making this Awards event possible this year,” Ms Cameron concluded.
