Our Principal Solicitor, Leah Cameron, spoke on National Talk Black at Bumma Bippera 987fm via the NIRS – National Indigenous Radio Service about Marrawah Law assisting the Queensland Government with consultation on the draft update to the South East Queensland Regional Plan which will support the development of 900,000 extra homes for more than two million residents, by 2046.
The draft ShapingSEQ 2023 Update is the Queensland Government’s plan to shape the future growth of South East Queensland (SEQ), encompassing the 12 local government areas of Brisbane, Gold Coast, Ipswich, Lockyer Valley, Logan, Moreton Bay, Noosa, Redland, Scenic Rim, Somerset, Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba (urban extent).
ShapingSEQ provides the framework for managing growth in the right way – to enhance already great communities and support world-class lifestyle, with good jobs and diverse, affordable housing.
The Queensland Government wants to hear from as many people as possible, including as many First Nations people as possible, to make sure the plan reflects their needs now and into the future.
South-East Queensland is home to a diverse range of First Nations peoples and the Queensland Government wants to recognise their deep connections to their ancestral lands and waters. In particular, their role in protecting, managing and enhancing the region’s natural and cultural resources.
To ensure First Nations peoples’ rights, interests and aspirations relating to land use planning are reflected through the development and ongoing delivery of the draft ShapingSEQ 2023 Update, this month Marrawah Law is coordinating a series of workshops on behalf of the Queensland Government, to get the views of First Nations people.
The first workshop has kicked off today at the Holland Parks Sports Club (49 Abbotsleigh Street, Holland Park) 10-12 and 2-4. A further workshop is on tomorrow in Noosa (Noosa Boardroom, 28 Eenie Creek Road, Noosaville). If you can’t make these sessions reach out to the team at service@marrawahlaw.com.au or give us a call on 4041 3088.
