Prue Cameron

As a consultant specialising in social policy, research and strategy, Prue will extend Marrawah Law’s current service offering.

Prue brings skills in policy development, strategic planning, stakeholder engagement and evaluation drawn from her experience across the academic, community, political and government sectors.

Prue lectured in health sociology at the University of Tasmania before moving to the Social Action Research Centre at Anglicare Tasmania to focus on her interest in social policy reform. Prue worked with Senator Bob Brown, then leader of the Australian Greens, as senior advisor and Director of Policy between 2005 and 2011. Highlights in this role include working with the Aboriginal community in Central Australia on the challenge of petrol sniffing which resulted in the Low Aromatic Fuel Act, and campaigning for world heritage protection for the rock art in Murujuga National Park.

Prue’s commitment to systems reform to improve outcomes for women and children experiencing family violence led to work in the Victorian specialist family violence sector. As a senior policy advisor at Domestic Violence Victoria, she conducted research on financial abuse, prepared submissions to the Victorian Royal Commission into Family Violence and wrote a report on early intervention strategies. Prue is a member of the Engender Equality board.

Since 2017 Prue has worked in the Tasmania government sector, most recently at Tasmania Legal Aid (TLA).  There she led the development of the TLA strategic plan, client engagement and client safety strategies and a new conflict of interest policy. Prue played a key role in developing TLA’s RAP, implementing several practical initiatives with the Palawa community, including the Rosie Smith Law Scholarship for First Nations law students, a joint project with UTAS and Riawunna Centre for Education.
