Cassandra Lang (Cassie)

Senior Solicitor

Operating out of and managing our Brisbane office, Cassie’s commercial experience covers negotiation, advice, compliance and representation for entities including government, energy companies, Prescribed Body Corporates (PBCs) and Registered Native Title Body Corporates (RNTBCs).

She has a thorough understanding of property law, commercial law and native title and has a recognised ability to navigate the layers of politics between community, native title parties, government and other stakeholders well. Cassie has been the lead advisor for scores of energy infrastructure projects with companies including Powerlink Queensland and Arrow Energy for native title and cultural heritage compliance.

For more than a decade she has represented native title groups and organisations in remote regions and is recognised as a rising star in native title by Doyle’s Guide to the Australian legal profession. She has assisted many traditional owner groups successfully negotiate with commercial interests on Indigenous land use, right to negotiate and exploration agreements.

Cassie’s expertise extends to providing detailed and complex strategic advice on cultural heritage management and its interaction with relevant native title issues. One of her defining achievements was her close work with the Meriam People to successfully have Torres Strait Islander freehold granted under the Torres Strait Islander Land Act 1991 (Qld).

She is highly active in promoting Indigenous voices in the legal profession and is currently vice president of the Indigenous Lawyers Association of Queensland. Cassie is a proud Bundjalung woman whose lands extend across the southern parts of the Gold Coast and north coast of New South Wales.
