Cassie and her family are from the Bundjalung People on the Southern part of the Gold Coast and north coast of New South Wales.
Cassie is the Vice President of the Indigenous Lawyers Association of Queensland and was recognised in 2015 as one of the Doyle’s Guide Native Title Raising Star.
For the past 9 years she has represented native title groups and organisations in remote regions of Queensland. She has a deep and thorough understanding of the complexities of native title and an ability to navigate the complex layers of politics between community, native title parties, all levels of government and other stakeholders.
She is experienced in assisting PBCs and RNTBCs in their corporate compliance matters. She has also worked closely with the Meriam People to successfully have Torres Strait Islander freehold granted under the Torres Strait Islander Land Act 1991 (Qld) in 2012.
She has been the legal advisor to energy proponents including Powerlink Queensland and Arrow Energy in respect of native title and Aboriginal cultural heritage compliance for scores of energy infrastructure projects.
She have also provided legal advice to Indigenous community trusts about native title and cultural heritage matters that affected current and prospective projects.
She has assisted numerous Traditional Owner groups to negotiate with various proponents Indigenous Land Use Agreements, Right to Negotiate Agreements and Exploration Agreements that address native title and Aboriginal cultural heritage compliance.
She has also prepared cultural heritage compliance assessments and provided detailed and complex strategic advice to clients about cultural heritage management; and its interaction with relevant native title issues.
